We have been made aware of a spoofing fraud trend that is affecting our members.
- Spoofing is when a fraudster falsifies the information transmitted to your Caller ID to disguise their identity.
- Recently, individuals are being contacted by what appears to be their financial institution via a phone call or text. They are then asked to verify their personal information, and/or provide a one-time passcode sent to their mobile device.
- This information is then used by fraudsters to enroll card information into Mobile Wallets to complete in-store and online purchases or login to OnLine or Mobile Banking to complete account-to-account transfers.
The credit union would never ask for unsolicited personal information such as your card number, PIN, OnLine or Mobile Banking credentials, or One-Time-Passcode. Members calling into the credit union will be asked for personal information to verify their identity.
If you have received a suspicious call or text or you believe you have been the victim of fraud, please contact GSCU immediately by calling 1-800-645-4728 or emailing us.
