The holiday season leads to an increase in consumer spending and fraud. Remain vigilant by following these fraud prevention tips:
- Beware of Spoofing. Spoofing is when a fraudster falsifies the information transmitted to your Caller ID to disguise their identity. It may appear that your financial institution is trying to contact you via a phone call or text. If asked to verify personal information, please hang up or do not respond and contact GSCU directly: 1-800-645-4728.
- We’ll never ask that. The credit union will never ask for unsolicited personal information such as your card number, PIN, OnLine or Mobile Banking credentials, or one-time passcode. Only members calling into the credit union will be asked for personal information to verify their identity.
- Keep your passwords and PINs private. Use strong, unique passwords, and do not share this information, even with close friends or family.
- Don’t click that link! Scammers will send malicious links that, once clicked, will connect them to your personal data. Never click a link in a text (or email!) that you received unexpectedly.
- Never send money to someone you have never met in person. While person-to-person payment apps like Zelle® are a fast, convenient way to send money, make sure you know who you are sending money to. Also, be cautious of scammers looking for payment in the form of gift cards.
If you have received a suspicious call or text or you believe you have been the victim of fraud, please contact GSCU immediately by calling 1-800-645-4728 or emailing us.
